A focus on knowledge and creativity shapes the core of the province of Utrecht's economic policy. After all, a healthy provincial economy is the driving force behind any region. Utrecht is a very attractive province to live in. The province aims to increase that appeal, and in doing so naturally relies on Utrecht's regional economy.
Economic Vision 2020
The Economic Vision 2020 describes how the province plans to contribute to economic development over the next 10 years. This plan provides an anchor for economic programmes and projects, and is also meant to inform other policy areas.
Three knowledge-intensive sectors
The economic strategy centres on fostering three promising, knowledge-intensive sectors through an effective incentives policy, while also accommodating the dynamics of other, established sectors. The three innovative sectors on which the policy focuses are life sciences, creative industries (gaming, design and media) and complex sustainability solutions.
'Greatest possible opportunity'
The province wants to afford its residents the greatest possible opportunity to provide for their own income, thus enabling society at large to benefit. To maximize this potential, the province focuses on three core values: quality, creativity and sustainability.
How does the province do that? By investing in the future - in innovation and the knowledge-based economy - and by contributing to a better living environment. It also ensures that an ample offer of suitable business locations supports both present and future economic activities.
