One of the main objectives of the province of Utrecht is sustainable use of soil and water. This entails striking the right balance between preservation and utilisation of soil and water.
The implementation of our provincial soil and water policy is based on:
preservation of the properties and the quality of the soil and water system (Planet);
fine-tuning of the functions that soil and water fulfil because of that preservation (Profit);
preservation of the value of soil and water for society (People).
European and national policies are integral components of our soil and water policy.
To guide our soil policy we have drafted our Bodemvisie (Soil Vision) and for water policy the Waterplan (Water Scheme) and Grondwaterplan (Groundwater Scheme). Our planned activities through 2012 are outlined in these agendas, the contents of which have been synchronised with our other provincial tasks.
Our key concepts are: water safety and flooding (e.g. Room for the Lek); water shortage; subterranean space; synchronisation and development of subterranean thermal energy; drinking water; soil subsidence; water quality; soil and water perception; administrative organisation of water management.
