Willibrord van Beek is (from 15 september 2013) the King’s Commissioner for the province of Utrecht. As Commissioner, Van Beek serves as chairman of the Provincial Council and as Chairman and member of the Provincial Executive. As a member of the Provincial Executive he performs a number of tasks concerning the representation and promotion of the province of Utrecht. His responsibilities extend into the realms international affairs, public order, legal matters, administrative integrity and archive inspection. He also represents both the State and the province.
Mayoral affairs and crisis management
As a public authority Van Beek's tasks relate to mayoral affairs and crisis management. Van Beek supervises the police force and regional security; visits municipalities; maintains relations with provincial government officials; and shares responsibility for conferring royal honours and titles.
All these activities are accounted for by the Commissioner in a residents’ annual report. This report also contains the Commissioner's appraisal of the quality of the provincial organisation.
