The envisioned goal is a province of Utrecht that is sustainable and attractive in 2040. Utrecht remains an inviting region in which many people wish to live, work and recreate. But congested roads, air pollution and urbanisation, among other factors, threaten Utrecht's delicate tapestry of attractive and accessible cities, villages and beautiful landscapes.
It is vital that immediate consideration be given to the manner in which we take up those challenges and preserve the region's balance. Our aim is to achieve long-term solutions and jointly realise six strategic objectives set out in the Treaty of Utrecht.
Together we aim to achieve:
a province which has room for excellent living, working and nature;
a province with an innovative knowledge-based economy;
a province that is accessible by car, bicycle or public transport, in a better environment;
a climate-neutral and climate-proof province;
a province in which all people matter and are able to participate in school, in their neighbourhood and in their job;
a province with beautiful nature and a more varied landscape.
